Off the grid · est. on foot

The Costa Rica the buses never reach.

Private access and quiet, small-group days into the country most travellers never see — led by someone who actually has the keys.

02What off the grid means

Private access. Real places. None of the crowd.

Off the grid isn’t a longer drive or a harder hike. It’s the road with a gate we’re welcome through, the table that doesn’t take bookings, the hour before the first engine turns over.

We don’t run bigger tours. We run quieter ones — for small groups who want the real thing, and for private travellers who want it built entirely around them.

Two ways to travel

Choose how you go off the grid.

The same hidden corners and private access — two different ways to experience them.

The country I stayed for

05The insider

The access isn’t a product. It’s a lifetime.

We came to this country young and spent years earning the welcomes the guidebooks can’t print — the coffee growers, the self-made chefs, the guides who read these forests like a page. That’s why we can take you where others can’t. Not a list of stops. A set of relationships.

Our story

We'd done Costa Rica before. This was the first time it felt like ours.

He took us down a road I'm certain isn't on any map, to a breakfast I still think about.

07Common questions

The things people ask us first.

Are your Costa Rica trips private or small-group?
Both. Every experience can be travelled semi-private with a small group — maximum 5, enquire for bigger groups — or entirely privately, your party alone. Our multi-day journeys are fully private, airport to airport.
How much does a trip with Off the Grid cost?
Day experiences are priced per person and shown on each experience page (small-group from around $50–$150, with a private option). Multi-day journeys are composed individually and priced on enquiry — built around the size of your party and the style of stay you choose, never from a fixed list.
Do your journeys include accommodation?
Yes — a private journey is handled end to end, and that includes where you sleep each night. We arrange every stay to the level of comfort you choose, from characterful boutique lodges to the most exclusive addresses in the country, and build the journey (and your proposal) around it. Day experiences are the activities only; journeys bundle the lodging, transfers, and guiding together.
What parts of Costa Rica do you cover?
Our experiences are based around Arenal and La Fortuna. Our journeys cross the whole country — the Caribbean and Tortuguero, the volcano, Monteverde's cloud forest, and the Pacific coast of Guanacaste — handled end to end.
When is the best time to visit Costa Rica?
It's a year-round destination. The dry season (mid-December–April) brings the clearest skies; the green season (May–mid-November) brings fuller waterfalls, greener forest, and far fewer people. We run trips in every month — see our Journal for how to pick your window.
Do you handle airport transfers and logistics?
Yes. Our journeys are airport to airport — we meet you when you land (San José or Liberia, whichever suits your flights), handle every transfer, boat, and detail in between, and return you to the airport. You just show up.
How do I book?
Bookable experiences can be reserved and paid for directly online. For a private journey, tell us the shape of your trip through the plan page and we'll reply personally — usually within a day — never with an automated quote.
